Dave Weckl Play-Along Book & CD for Drummers
I just wanted to post a quick review of a pretty neat play-along package for you drummers out there. It’s called the “Ultimate Play-Along” by Dave Weckl. It’s a great practice tool. Especially if you just want to get in some quality playing time with some fantastic musicians. In pulling together this magazine, I’ve cut my gigging schedule down drastically so I can spend more time increasing the amount of content and the quality of content that we deliver. The coming months are full of neat things coming up for us here at MusicPro Mag.
So while I’m not on stage as much these days, I can still get a good workout playing along with these masterfully crafted tracks. World class players such as Mike Stern (guitar) and John Patitucci (bass) are on these tracks. For drummers who can read, charts of the tunes are included as well as a ‘talk-down’ of each tune by Dave Weckl. For non-reading drummers, you can still jam out to the tracks and memorize the arrangements without too much difficulty.
I use this book and CD with my private students to help them put to use the technical stuff they are so eager to learn, but in a more musical context so that they can use their technical achievements in a musical manner….not just for technique’s sake. I’ve posted a video below of me playing along to a track called “16th Feel” from either vol. 1 or vol. 2. There are actually two books in this series. I own (as do many of my students) and use them both, so I’m not sure which book this track is from….so check them both out.
The books tend to range from about $21.00 to $27.00 (U.S.) online. I purchased my two from Roberson’s Music in Fredericksburg, VA, where I live. www.robersonsmusic.com.
Anyway, here’s a video of me playing along to one of the tracks from these books. I highly recommend checking these out. They each come with a CD and there is also a guitar version of this book available with the same tracks but with a “talk-down” by Mike Stern and the guitar part is removed so you guitarists can shed a little.
